New call for witnesses to mugging

police have renewed an appeal for witnesses after a woman was mugged in broad daylight.

The 67-year-old was on her way to visit a friend and was walking in Brunswick Street, just off London Road, at 5pm on Tuesday when she heard footsteps running at her from behind.

She was pushed into the road between two parked cars and her handbag was snatched from her.

The two suspects ran off towards Montgomery Street, but the victim was not able to catch a clear sight of them as they escaped to provide a description.

The pair took her handbag, which contained £130, a bank card and mobile phone. Bruised and shaken, she then made her way to a friend’s house, and was driven to the police station.

As reported in yesterday’s Evening News, the victim said she thought that the shock of the attack could have killed someone more frail than herself.

Police say they think there may have been witnesses in the area because the attack took place at a busy time of day in a central location.

Anyone who saw the pair escaping, or who has any information on the attack should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131-311 3131, or Crimestoppers in anonymity on 0800 555 111.
