New details on plans for Craighouse

DEVELOPERS have revealed new details for 116 new homes in the grounds of Edinburgh Napier’s Craighouse campus.

The new plans which go on public display this week, show how the grounds will be transformed by dozens of luxury homes and apartments.

This is despite campaigners against over-development of the site collecting more than 4000 signatures. The original consultation saw just 110 homes on the plans last year.

William Gray Muir, director of Sundial Properties, who are in partnership with Mountgrange investment firm in the deal, said finance is in place to begin work within 12 months but raised concerns that the condition of on-site listed buildings could fall into long term decline.

He said: “Some of them that were vacated last year are already suffering from dry rot. Others could go into rapid decline.”

However local campaign group The Friends of Craighouse are unhappy with the plans.

Spokeswoman Rosy Barnes added: “Serious questions should be asked about why Napier has sold this highly protected site – including a nature reserve – to this consortium. ”
