A bomb scare which led to parts of a village being sealed off for two days was caused by firework bangers.
Bomb disposal teams and dozens of police vans swooped on the Riverside area of Newbridge on Sunday morning following reports of a series of loud bangs.
Police cordoned off the only road into the cul-de-sac while sniffers dogs and bomb disposal robots searched the streets for the cause of the noise.
But yesterday a police spokesman said: “Searches are ongoing at Riverside in Newbridge following the recovery of a number of items following reports of loud bangs in the area.
“Cordons remain in place whilst officers and partners continue to thoroughly search the area. All the items found are believed to be bangers, and there does not appear to be any immediate risk to the safety of the community.”
