No appetite for food van

The operator of a shopping centre in Wester Hailes has objected to plans for a takeaway food van in its car park.

Elaine Macrae has applied for a street trader’s licence to sell hot and cold food and drink from 6am until 6pm at Westside Plaza.

Council roads staff have recommended granting the licence for the reduced operating hours of 8am until 4pm, while also asking for a condition to be added to the licence stating that the vehicle should be moved at the end of the day.

But AWG Property, which owns Westside Plaza, said the existing Munchbox van is having a detrimental effect on the other operators within the centre.
