OAP left with serious head injuries after being hit by cyclist

POLICE are looking for a cyclist who collided with an elderly man leaving him serious head injuries.

The collision happened on Bridge Street, Tranent, at around 3.30pm on Saturday. The cyclist stopped to help but officers investigating would now like to speak to him again.

Police say the 79-year-old man needed hospital treatment for a serious head injury.

The collision was said to have been witnessed by several people and police are now appealing for anyone who has not yet contacted them to get in touch.

They are particularly keen to speak to the cyclist who did attend to the injured man.

However officers would like to hear from him as he is a crucial witness.

The cyclist is described as male, wearing a helmet and riding a black and reddish pedal cycle.

Sergeant Gary Taylor of the road policing unit in Livingston said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision who has not yet been in touch with us.

“We would particularly like to speak to the cyclist who stopped at the time.”

Anyone with information should contact officers on 101 quoting incident number 2244 of January 20.
