A CHILD was knocked to the ground and bitten by a dog as she played with friends.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place on a grassy area at Raeburn Rigg in Livingston.

A group of three children were playing in the area at around 10am on Saturday when they were approached by the dog and its owner.

The dog, which was off its leash, jumped up on one of the children, aged five, knocking her off her feet before biting her on the forehead. After the incident the man and dog headed off towards a
bridge that leads to Sutherland Way.

The owner is described as white, medium to large build, with black hair. He was wearing a green top.

His pet is thought to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, brown and black with white details, including a white spot around its eye.
