How to get cheap and ethical fashion – Hayley Matthews

We can all help poor fashion industry workers in countries like Bangladesh by buying unsold clothes that might otherwise go to landfill, writes Hayley Mattews.

The coronavirus has left so many struggling, people you might not even think about. People in far away countries and those working hard to make ends meet seem to be hit hard. For example, leading brands have cancelled orders for over $2 billion worth of clothes that have already been produced. This has left millions of workers in countries like Bangladesh unpaid, and at risk of starvation and being unable to support their families.

Sadly, there is no safety net or furlough payment for them.

The thought of allowing these families to starve, at the hands of fast fashion, has left me feeling like I want to help – not to mention the thought of letting all the clothes go to landfill.

Edinburgh business takes baby steps to slowing the fast fashion frenzy

That’s where Lost Stock, created by the team at Mallzee, comes in. You get at least three items of clothing chosen for you, with a massive 50 per cent discount off RRP, that supports these workers and prevents waste.

Each order supports a worker and their family for a week and the goal is to help 250,000 workers and their families.

I’ve ordered a £35 lot and will be grateful for being able to do a little good. They do kids bundles and ask you for your style preference and size or you can take a lucky dip. Regardless, it’s a little that we can all do to help those who have been so badly hit by the fast fashion halt due to Covid. The delivery takes a while but it’s worth the wait.
