John Gibson: She’s back, dicing with the demons

Loves to see herself in the papers. The woman can’t help it. Or help herself. Gail Porter’s now telling us she’s going to write a book about mental health problems, of which she’s had a few.

The sometime TV presenter, who famously lost her hair to alopecia and, from all accounts, appears to have been to hell and back, is now turning author.

We are told that in the book she will be “facing her own demons to help others.’’ Noble of the Edinburgh-born 41-year-old.

Consider this a Gail warning. Keep your clothes on, dear, (again famously, she was projected naked onto the Parliament building) while we wait for better weather.

Happy ending

This is what we want to hear. Researchers from Warwick University have discovered in a study of 10,000 people that it’s not true what’s said about grumpy old men and women.

On the contrary, they become happier. Bundles of fun, in fact.

Reports the gent leading the study, a Dr Saverio Stranges: “It’s obvious that people’s physical quality of life deteriorates as they age but what is interesting is that their mental well-being doesn’t also deteriorate. In fact it increases.’’

The doc adds, significantly: “It could also be due to a lowering of expectations from life, with older people less likely to put pressure on themselves in the personal and professional spheres.”

I said Stranges, not strange ways.
