The picture of the actor Kiefer Sutherland in yesterday’s paper reminded me of the time when he passed me in the High Street one night. I remarked to my colleagues that I recognised him but for the life of me I could not remember his name. It was only when he was about 20 yards up the road that I remembered, which might have turned out to be to his advantage. I didn’t want an autograph or a selfie, no chance. I wanted to invite him to The Jinglin’ Geordie for a pint!

Speaking of which, Ken Stott walked into the aforementioned hostelry when he was filming an episode of Rebus – Fleshmarket Close. Wearing a Hibs scarf, he loudly proclaimed to those present that it was the wrong colour, for although Rebus is a Hibby, Ken is a dyed-in-the-wool Jambo!
