Talk of the Town: Garry lays bare his cup victory vow

CRAIG Beattie offered football fans a flash of the flesh when he scored his last-minute penalty to sink Celtic in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

But, with no offence intended towards the Hearts hero, we were delighted not to be subjected to the removal of his shorts and socks after he whipped off his top.

That might not be the case for Garry O’Connor, however, if the Hibs hitman lifts the trophy in next month’s historic final.

The striker says: “I’ll walk down Princes Street naked if we win it, I’ll tell you that!”

So, Hibs fans, worth waiting a few more years?

Spring launch reveals that charity’s cup runneth over

THE old saying about tea being a cup of life has been confirmed.

The Bethany Christian Trust’s recent spring launch at Loopy Lorna’s Teahouse in Edinburgh was marked by the revelation that the charity’s volunteers give out 23,580 brews to homeless people every year.

“That’s a lot of tea,” says events organiser Hannah Biddulph. “It made me think how comforting a cup of tea is and how we could encourage and inspire others to host a ‘stop for tea and stop homelessness’ event.”

So next time you hand over 20p for the price of a cuppa, you could be changing the world.

A royally good offer

IT’S sure to win a royal seal of approval from some.

The Lady Nairne Beefeater Grill in Willowbrae Road is celebrating royal couple William and Kate’s first anniversary by offering a free meal to those marking their first year of married bliss on the same date – April 29.

Suzanne Curry, a spokeswoman for Beefeater Grill, says: “We love a good celebration here at Beefeater Grill and nothing got us all in the party spirit quite like the royal wedding in 2011.”

Given chat of Kate’s slender figure, something tells us she won’t be popping in for a burger herself.

SINCE launching his “dream app” at the Science Festival in Edinburgh last week, Professor Richard Wiseman has had 200,000 reports cram his dream database, with the programme having been downloaded more than 300,000 times.

He says: “It shows us that people are obviously searching for a better night’s sleep with more pleasant dreams. Now the hard work of analysing the data begins.”

Which creates the scientific headscratcher of actually being awake while in dreamland.
