Talk of the Town: Nothing Toulouse getting pumped up

IT’S all hands to the pump for Edinburgh Rugby this weekend.

Our boys tackle French cracks Toulouse in the quarter-finals of the Heineken Cup.

To mark the occasion, Deuchars has rebranded its pump branding in pubs around the Capital to now read: “Edinburgh not To Lose!”

Tom Cannon, head of marketing for the Edinburgh brewery, said: “That Edinburgh has made it to the final eight is a great achievement and we’re proud to extend our support, even in a tongue-in-cheek manner!”

After all the effort Deuchars has gone to, Talk of the Town supposes it’ll have one. Just to be sociable, you know.

Search for the selfless is mother of all competitions

IF there’s one person who deserves to put their feet up once in a while, then it’s got to be mum.

Now a pub chain is aiming to make sure Scotland’s most selfless mum gets her fair share of rest and recuperation.

Sizzling Pubs is looking for mothers who compromise on nights out and new clothes to keep dad and the kids happy.

Regional heats take in Edinburgh, so to nominate your mum e-mail [email protected]

But first make sure dad doesn’t have plans for her night off . . .

Grumpier state of mind

“WHEN does the One o’Clock Gun go off?” asks the average American tourist visiting the Capital, but US visitors haven’t always been as enthusiastic.

One user of the Tumblr social networking site has posted the less than complimentary thoughts of an American woman who came to Scotland in 1878 and wrote a travel diary about the experience.

“On the way [we] stopped at Jeannie Dean’s cottage of two rooms besides the but and ben, as the Scotch girl said who lived there, meaning the dairy and the stable all under one roof,” she sniffs. And most of the rooms at “Holyroad” Palace are dismissed as “miserable poke holes of places”.

At least our tourist offering has improved since then.

Born to be not very wild

WE needn’t look further than Edinburgh Zoo if it’s passion we’re after.

Our panda pals have been getting up close as the mating dance draws nearer the main event.

But it seems many of us are lacking this kind of spirit in our lives, as 34 per cent of people in a new survey say the want more passion in their lives – easily trumping the 19 per cent who reckon more money will make them happy.

Sadly, we weren’t told how many just want a stalk of bamboo.
