Talk of the Town: ‘Pirate’ left high and dry in lift woe

OF all the mishaps to occur when out canvassing for votes, it’s likely to be among the more memorable.

Candidate Phil Hunt found himself trapped in a lift for more than an hour while electioneering in an upmarket housing complex in Marchmont on Friday.

Unable to raise the alarm due to a faulty button, the Pirate Party hopeful was forced to call 999 and eventually summon engineers.

To make matters worse, residents believed he had been the cause of the now broken lift, having found his leaflets at the scene of the crime.

Mr Hunt, who awkwardly lives in the next street, assured residents that it was already broken.

“It would have been a very good story if the pirate candidate had staged an escape from the lift, but I was in fact rescued,” the software developer told Talk of the Town. “And it was definitely already broken when I got in.”

But an advertising board for a Wannaburger in the West End appears to have stirred some ill-feeling among a few supporters of the Ibrox club after they named a dish after Rangers’ administrators.

The new Duff and Phelps burger has provoked sufficient ire among the light blue fraternity that it has now been withdrawn from the menu.

Meanwhile, it is understood Hibs and Hearts fans lapped up the burger with relish.

Professor Mike Dixon, the world-leading surgeon at the Western General, has revealed it’s the booming sounds of Metallica and Dutch trance star Tiesto that keep him cool as he carries out breast and reconstructive surgery.

The 57-year-old says: “Surgery is not stressful if you know what you’re doing, so you might as well enjoy it and have some music.”

We await musical montage footage of Mike’s best work.

TV profile is just the job

HOPEFULS on The Apprentice may have been jostling for the limelight during last week’s Capital episode, but it seems the star of the show was in fact Edinburgh itself.

Since the show was broadcast, travel search site Skyscanner has seen a 78 per cent increase in travellers hunting for city-bound flights.

Not bad given our culinary culture, according to some contestants, of deep-fried Mars bars.
