Talk of the Town: ‘Pirate’ left high and dry in lift woe

OF all the mishaps to occur when out canvassing for votes, it’s likely to be among the more memorable.

Candidate Phil Hunt found himself trapped in a lift for more than an hour while electioneering in an upmarket housing complex in Marchmont on Friday.

Unable to raise the alarm due to a faulty button, the Pirate Party hopeful was forced to call 999 and eventually summon engineers.

To make matters worse, residents believed he had been the cause of the now broken lift, having found his leaflets at the scene of the crime.

Mr Hunt, who awkwardly lives in the next street, assured residents that it was already broken.

“It would have been a very good story if the pirate candidate had staged an escape from the lift, but I was in fact rescued,” the software developer told Talk of the Town. “And it was definitely already broken when I got in.”

Meanwhile, it is understood Hibs and Hearts fans lapped up the burger with relish.
