THESE days we are never short of recommendations.
On Facebook that friend you haven’t seen in six years will tell you where to eat, where to go on holiday or even what car you should buy.
On Tripadvisor we are guided by complete strangers on that all-important hotel for our special trip or the restaurant for that special dinner.
And on RatedPeople we are told which tradesman will turn up on time and charge a reasonable price.
However, there’s no substitute for recommendations that are local. And there’s no fooling the people of Edinburgh when it comes to what are the great places to eat or visit.
Today, Marketing Edinburgh launches the latest phase of its city centre marketing campaign This is Edinburgh which aims to get the people of Edinburgh talking about their favourite hour of the day.
The point is that Edinburgh is great at all times of the day. Whether it’s that 5am walk through Bruntsfield Links with your dog. Or the feel of a Saturday night on George Street. Or, if you work in newspapers, maybe it’s the hour before deadline when all the city’s news is cut to fit and sent to the printers.
The people who know Edinburgh best are being asked to shout about when Scotland’s Capital shines the most in their eyes. The postman will see the world very differently to the landlord and we want to hear it.
Edinburgh has something for everyone and we should celebrate that.
It may not quite be the City That Never Sleeps, but it lives and breathes and buzzes all year round.
