all eyes will be on Edinburgh’s footballing rivalry this weekend.
The Scottish Cup derby at Tynecastle will inevitably see passions run high as both teams aim to take another step towards repeating Hampden glory of the past.
For one minute during the game though, hostilities will cease as fans come together to back the Justice for Shaun campaign. It’s a little over a year since keen footballer and dad-of-one Shaun Woodburn died after being attacked while celebrating the New Year with friends in Leith. The senseless killing shocked the city, while the four-year sentence later handed down to the teenage assailant has rightly caused outrage.
There will be a great atmosphere in the city on Sunday and using the profile of derby day to highlight the ongoing campaign is fantastic.
Both sets of supporters are to be congratulated and we hope their plea at tomorrow’s game is heard at the highest level. Shaun should be at the derby cheering on his team tomorrow. That he can’t be is an appalling tragedy and one from which his family are still to achieve any closure. For all fans, win or lose tomorrow, they can be proud of their actions supporting Justice for Shaun.
