Lynne McCrossan: Hats off to Scottish designers

Have your say

Scotland Re:Designed descends on the Capital this week, showcasing the best of what our country has to offer from the world of design and textiles.

Set by PR guru Chris Hunt, it is a platform for the creative community to engage with the business world, new clients and the media in order to spread the word about their work.

After flying the flag with exhibits in London, New York and Chicago last year, it was time to shine the spotlight on home soil, with it all kicking off this Thursday.

There will be design exhibitions, talks and runway shows taking place in Harvey Nichols, The Assembly Rooms and The Balmoral Hotel.

The most exciting aspect of this programme is putting our new designers in the hands of shoppers. I get to work with these wonderful pieces on photo shoots on a weekly basis and one of the best things about that is watching people’s reactions when they see creations in the flesh or try them on.

This year there is a strong, diverse group showing. Rebecca Torres with her bold bodycon designs; Jennifer Morris, this year’s recipient of Young Designer of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards, and her sugary sweet dream-like creations; and established textile brand DC Dalgliesh, which has had new life breathed into it.

And all of it on our own doorstep.
