My Edinburgh: Paul Hanlon and Jamie Walker

Have your say

A graduate of Hibs’ Academy, centre-half Paul has captained Scotland at under-21 level and his club on several occasions. Widely regarded as one of the most promising defenders in the country, he is a lifelong Hibs supporter.

When I hear the words ‘This Is Edinburgh’, the first thing that springs to mind is: Edinburgh Castle right in the centre of the city – it’s an amazing sight.

What makes me particularly proud to come from the city is: The thousands of tourists coming for the Fringe Festival and how much of a success it is. It’s a great city to live in, it’s Scotland’s capital and I’m very proud to come from Edinburgh.

Edinburgh still surprises me when: The Hogmanay party kicks off every New Year – attracting thousands of people from both the city and from outside. It’s a spectacular occasion and nobody does it better than Edinburgh.

Growing up in Sighthill, Jamie has always been a Hearts fan. A graduate of Hearts’ Academy, he was crowned Hearts’ Young Player of the Year for 2012-13.

When I hear the words ‘This Is Edinburgh’, the first thing that springs to mind is: Heart of Midlothian Football Club. I’m lucky that I get to play for the club I love, and Hearts and Edinburgh definitely go hand-in-hand.

What makes me particularly proud to come from/live/work in the city is: It’s a very welcoming city, which you can see by the amount of tourists who visit all year round. And the views are spectacular, no matter where you go.

A perfect day in Edinburgh ends with: Watching Hearts win at Tynecastle then heading out into town for a bite to eat and then on to a bar for a drink. There’s such a big variety of restaurants near the city centre, and there’s more than enough bars to choose from.

The pub/bar/club I always recommend for a celebratory drink after a win is: Le Monde, on George Street. You are guaranteed lovely food, and you can have a few drinks until late, then head downstairs or along George Street to a club.

As a local; my hidden gem that most visitors to Edinburgh may miss is: A bar/restaurant called The Holyrood 9A. It’s just around the corner from the Scottish Parliament and it does the best burgers in Edinburgh.
