Sarah Tolan: Tis the Season of the beauty gift set

Have your say

With the countdown to Christmas well underway, tis the season to fill yourself full of festive cheer – beauty based or otherwise.

Christmas shopping for some will have been done and dusted weeks in advance. But for others, leaving it until the week before is all part of the process.

If you have a beauty addict in your family, there are lots of pretty treats on offer at this time of year.

After all, Christmas signals the season of the beauty gift set so whether you’re buying for your wife, mum or gran, you will find something.

Before you start, do your research: does your mum have a favourite beauty brand for instance? Or does your daughter like glittery nail polish? This will help avoid buying inappropriate – and therefore possibly unused – presents. It will also help you budget and avoid panic present buying.

One of my favourite gift set brands is Origins, as each year it produces some affordable, practical sets without comprising on the wow factor. This year, amongst those on offer is the Grow Younger set. Retailing at £55, individually these products would cost £97.80. This includes products from the best-selling Plantscription range, a favourite of mums around the world.

Another great brand for mums, aunties and grannies is British brand Molton Brown. Synonymous with taste and tradition, if your mum loves to relax with a soak in the bath, treat her to one of their sets. The Gingerlily Perfect Bathing set contains products worth £53.50 but sells for £45 saving you £8.50.

If someone in your family is a fragrance fan, Jo Malone is always a safe bet and there is plenty to shop depending on your budget. The Christmas Cracker, £32, is a beautiful way to introduce a lady to the brand – or indeed top up her fragrance wardrobe. It contains Lime Basil and
Mandarin Cologne,

Nectarine Blossom and Honey Body Creme, Blackberry and Bay Hand Wash. Shopping for a lady who loves her lashes? Then check out the New York Lash wardrobe by Eylure, £12. Available from Topshop, it contains three pairs of false lashes.

And younger family members might also like some of the offerings from nail brand, Nails Inc. It’s celebrating its partnership with British beauty Alexa Chung with a number of different releases including the Alexa Collection. It includes six of her favourite shades for £45.

Hair brand John Frieda has three gift sets on offer this year for curl control, brightening blonde and glamorous volume depending on hair concerns. The packs, called For The Queen of Curls, For The Blonde Bombshell and For The Love of Big Hair, each contain a suitable and specific shampoo, conditioner and two hair products for just £8 a set: a bargain beauty buy for Christmas.

And if you’re looking for stocking fillers, Clinique and Benefit are just two brands bursting with small presents perfect for this. From Clinique, check out the Glow and Go Kisses set, £20, which contains four luscious lip balms. And from The Body Shop, the Sweet Polar Bear sets, £7 each, look fun and festive.

And after all that shopping, you may need some pampering of your own to get set for any parties.

Handily then, One Spa has created The Little Black Dress Package. It includes a body scrub and body wrap, a shellac manicure or pedicure, use of the Escape at One facilities and a glass of Prosecco. It runs subject to availability, Monday to Friday until December 23, and costs £135 per person.
