The goings-on at the City Chambers remind me of the children’s song “Ten Green Bottles”, but in this case it is no accident that four councillors have ‘fallen’ by choosing to leave their respective party groups and continue to serve as independents.
With one Conservative jumping ship and three from the SNP, the Tories can boast of being the largest party once again, although this accolade has had very little to do with them.
However being the largest party and being in power are two entirely different matters and the coalition will undoubtedly soldier on.
It does beg the question though why group members are preferring to operate independently rather than remain in the fold.
It is a problem I have no doubt that Councillor Adam McVey – as SNP group and council administration leader – is currently addressing and I trust will resolve.
