Tuesday is not one of the big nights in A&E, obviously, but it still goes like a fair.
I’ve often thought a viewing gallery would be a great addition, if only so we, the great moany public, can see where our money goes and really appreciate the quiet, calm, Croc-wearing men and women who try to fix people who break themselves in all sorts of bizarre ways.
People who drink vodka by the bottle, then climb ladders, which they have thoughtfully balanced on a coffee table first, or people who use their faces to solve arguments by hammering them into other people’s fists.
And of course, it would be worth it to watch the care they take with those suffering from the illnesses we all dread, the cancers and the dementias. For all its faults and problems, the NHS is a jewel in our national crown. Let’s have a Thank You NHS Day.
