MUSIC-mad Ian Rankin got a birthday present to savour – in the form of meeting music legend Nick Cave.

The pair met up after Rankin – who was 55 on Tuesday – spent the night in the audience during Cave’s concert at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

Merchiston-based crime writer Rankin, who created the Inspector Rebus series, took to Twitter to tell followers: “Only one word to describe tonight’s Nick Cave gig in Edinburgh: Magic darts.”


THE opinions polls suggest it’s the SNP driving a tank through Scottish politics, with some suggestions they could land all 59 seats at the General Election.

Yesterday, however, Scottish Conservatives leader Ruth Davidson was in the hotseat as she rolled through Dundee.
