Busy Edinburgh route to get biggest number of 'floating' bus stops so far

This is dangerous and breaks the law regarding accessibility under the Equality Act. It also pours fuel onto the fire between cyclists and other road users/pedestrians when we should be trying to work out a solution for everyone.

So, a dedicated safe space for cyclists, but if you're getting the bus you have to take your life in your hands dodging bikes, taxis and buses? Good luck.

Lucien Romano

Oh dear, here we go with the “it works in other cities” whiny comments. Well, if you enjoy that kind of thing, go and stay there, then. The whole point of a council is they should deliver what residents actually want, not force their own ideas on everyone without consultation.

Ken Johnston

A more sensible solution would have been to keep the bus lanes on the left hand side and put cyclists in the centre of the road.

Allie Cath

What about the elderly and disabled? People with buggies? Wheelchairs? Autistic people who will have things whizzing past them on both sides? This is utter madness.

Poor planning again, congestion will be worse and people will be run into by cyclists. Edinburgh residents will have to pay damages to people injured or killed by this mad idea.

Viv Sutherland

This is insanity. Somebody has to raise their heads above the parapet and just say stop. You’ve lost any trust, respect or confidence you may have had left. Nonsensical.

Jean Irvine

What happens if the bus has to put the ramp down to enable a pram or wheelchair to get on the bus? Poor parent or wheelchair user, particularly if you are in a cycleway. This is sheer madness - if you cycle surely you can ride round a bus.

Atholl Cunningham

If they want to get rid of traffic in town, have all deliveries before, say, 8am or after 11am and nowt in between. All cars vans etc from, say, Murrayfield and a circle from there round the city centre to be barred from going in, except buses, taxis, private hires and push bikes. Granted difficult for those who live in the city who already have cars - that could be problematic.

Edinburgh Clowncil can equal Donald Trump when it comes to stupidity, this is insanely dangerous!

Jonathan Frater

As a bus driver I think this whole system is crazy, just totally nuts.

Wes Murdiff

So a new bus stop down in Stockbridge... great.... but a van was parked directly on top of it making a delivery! The whole city is suffering just now and unfortunately it’s at the hands of those we elected to run it on OUR behalf.

Ian Vandepeear

So when a bus stops, everything stops!

Frances Petrie-Hay

What happens to people who need the bus lowered to the curb?

Imagine a dark misty night.... “I drove straight over it!” I was a roads inspector for EC for 15 years and I can only say, what they’re currently doing is utter madness.

Richie Smith

Love how the council are expecting cyclists to “give way” to pedestrians getting on the bus, when cyclists can’t even follow the law and stop at red lights!

Mark Fairbairn

Hospitals are going to be full because of this. So much for protect the NHS. Seriously, when people get to a certain level of power does the brain just turn to mush?

David Hogg

What is this madness? As a wheelchair user I am not looking forward to exiting the bus straight in front of a cyclist.

I don't see why they need special lanes etc anyway. They pay no attention to stop signs at traffic lights and go on the pavement when it suits them.

Caroline Mearns McMillan

On one hand, lockdown the country to protect the "at risk" population, and on the other hand EC force them into the path of cyclists. It wasn’t that long ago that a lady was actually killed by a cyclist mowing her down, is that forgotten about?

Daniel Farquhar

I’m glad to see walking and cycling is considered more by the council these days. For far too long have they prioritised the car to satisfy the older generation!

Tully Tulley

All this for lanes that lots of cyclists don't use. How much is going to be spent rectifying the mistakes they are making just now?
