Parents in court over truancies

THREE parents accused of allowing their children to play truant from school have been handed court dates.

The trio – who cannot be identified for legal reasons – had their cases called at Edinburgh’s Justice Of the Peace Court yesterday, as part of a private prosecution being brought by the city council.

The local authority alleges that the adults failed to ensure their children attended school in the city between August 17, 2011 and June 29 this year.

A man and a woman had their cases continued, while another woman pleaded not guilty.
