Park strife for older people

MORE than half of older Scots have admitted they were unable to get to a park even once a week because of bad pavements.

The Edinburgh University-led study has found clear links between an older persons’s health, wellbeing and quality of life and the planning and design of the outdoor environment.

It also showed that 56 per cent of people aged over 60 are unable to make it to a local park even once a week.

Only 11 per cent are able to get to a green space about twice a week, the report Inclusive Design for Getting Outdoors found.
