Partnership up for award

THE two largest providers of affordable housing in Midlothian have been shortlisted for a UK award for their work together on new housing in Penicuik.

Midlothian Council and Melville Housing Association have been jointly shortlisted in the excellence in housing finance and development category at the Chartered Institute of Housing’s UK Housing awards for their 28-home Wester Cuiken project.

The joint submission highlighted how the council and Melville made savings of £125,000 and built six extra homes. Wester Cuiken was also recognised for the steps taken to protect tenants from rapidly rising energy prices.
