A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after he was hit by a car in Musselburgh.

The 39-year-old was crossing the road in Monktonhall Terrace around 6.50pm on Thursday, when he was struck by a Volkswagen Golf travelling south.

He sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, before he was transferred to the Western General Hospital, where he is believed to remain in a critical condition.

The road was closed for approximately three hours while road policing officers responded to the incident and carried out inquiries.

Officers are now asking anyone who has any further information to contact police immediately.

Sergeant Gary Taylor, from the Road Policing Unit at Dalkeith, said: “As part of our inquiries we are eager to speak with any other motorists or pedestrians who were on Monktonhall Road at 6.50pm on Thursday evening and who witnessed this collision.”
