Pedestrian killed on dual carriageway

A PEDESTRIAN has been killed after being hit by a car on one of the Lothians’ busiest roads.

The incident happened last night on the A90 near to the Cramond Brig pub.

The road was closed southbound, meaning traffic which had just crossed the Forth Road Bridge on the way into Edinburgh was disrupted for several hours. The road was reopened before 5am.

Today the Scottish Ambulance Service in Edinburgh confirmed it had been called to a fatality in the area at around 7.42pm, but had not been required once it arrived at the scene. Fire and rescue teams were not called to the accident.

That area is not commonly used as a crossing given the high speed of the traffic emerging from the dual carriageway leading down from the Forth Road Bridge.

It is understood the worst of rush hour traffic had eased by the time of the incident.
