It has been a year like no other, pushing the emotions of individuals and communities across the Capital to the absolute maximum.
There have been tears, lots of frustration and at times confusion, and there have been moments when most of us will admit we simply ‘had enough’.
But the people of Edinburgh and the Lothians brought out the absolute best in each other by refusing to be beaten by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Amid the sadness and frustration there were still smiles and laughter - and there was a huge sense of pride in what we were able to achieve together in the most challenging of times.
Some of us did little things to make a difference, such as smiling and waving to strangers on our lockdown walks, offering to shop for those self-isolating, or making our children laugh with the most inventive of home-schooling ideas.
And then there were the true heroes – our health workers, shop staff, frontline teams and community activists who put themselves at the forefront of things to help us all.
Today, the Evening News asks you to celebrate what we achieved together as we approach the unknown challenges of 2021 – where we will once again need to find ways to make each other smile.
