Edinburgh King’s Theatre lights Bat Signal in honour of late star Andy Gray

The King’s Theatre in Edinburgh mounted a superhero send-off in honour of the late panto legend Andy Gray.

The theatre, in Fountainbridge, lit up a bat signal into the night sky - a tribute to Gray’s favourite comic book character.

The actor and comedian, who recovered from cancer in 2019, passed away on January 18, after suffering from complications caused by coronavirus.

He had a lifelong fascination with the Caped Crusader, and when he returned to the stage after his cancer diagnosis, his fellow cast members arranged for him to arrive in his very own Batmobile.

For more than a decade, Gray starred in the annual Christmas pantomime at the King’s Theatre, playing, as he put it, “the idiot” in such perennial favourites as Aladdin and Cinderella.

Close friend and panto co-star, Grant Stott, called the theatre’s tribute “phenomenal”.

Posting on Twitter, he told followers: “Had to come see this for myself.

“Andy would have loved this,” he added.
