Fife Zoo fire: Plea for help as zoo is without water and electricity

Emergency services were called to the zoo at 12.11 pm on Sunday

Fife Zoo have released a plea for help as they are left without water and electricity after a fire broke out just after midday on Sunday.

The zoo, which is based near Collessie, posted on social media: “Thank you for the support at such a difficult time for us.

“Urgent help required!!

“On site we have no electricity and no water due to the fire.

“We are looking for some urgent help with this. We need electricians, we need generators and if anyone can help at this time, please get in touch via messenger.

“We need to get electricity to the site that can at least take us through tonight. We have human and animal residents onsite needing support right now.

“Thank you so much for your kind words and support at this time. A massive thanks to the emergency services who managed to get the fire under control.”

The fire service sent four fire engines to the incident after visitors to the zoo were evacuated.

An eyewitness told the Edinburgh Evening News: "There is smoke and flames pouring out of the soft play building.

“Luckily the keepers were able to evacuate the marmosets safely.

“Their enclosure was closest to the site of the fire.”
