The doors were being thrown open to Edinburgh’s first LEGO store today, and the Evening News was given a sneak peek in advance.
The brand-new store features a unique build of an Edinburgh-focused mosaic featuring the Castle, the Loch Ness Monster and a piper.
Bosses said they had been inundated with phone calls ahead of the opening, and were excited to welcome the first customers in on Thursday.
While under normal circumstances the store would be a touch, feel and play experience, it has had to adapt for Covid safety.
LEGO-loving staff are, however, on hand throughout the store.
The opening had been promoted with a LEGO built phone box on the Royal Mile and this has now been moved to outside the new store where it will stay for the next month.
Fans are encouraged to take a photo with it, upload it to social media with #LegoStoreEdinburgh #StJamesQuarter or LEGO Life, show a store associate at the shop to be able to receive a free LEGO gift to build at home.
There are also a range of grand opening promotions such as a gift with purchase of £120 or more.
The first 250 people visiting the store and spending £75 will receive a unique LEGO store associate minifigure and a customised ‘LEGO Store Edinburgh’ tile.
Alison Wood, LEGO Stores UK, Benelux & Scandinavia District Senior Manager said: “We know there are many loyal LEGO fans in Edinburgh, so we are thrilled to be able to bring the LEGO Store experience to this amazing city.
"We cannot wait to welcome the local community through our doors to enjoy exclusive in-store experiences, brand new products and endless activities.”
The new store will offer LEGO VIP members a suite of in-store benefits, including exclusive VIP gifts with purchase, and double-points events. To sign up, locals simply need to register for free at the LEGO website.
