Garbage's iconic Princes Street Gardens gig to mark opening of Scottish Parliament to be streamed this weekend

This weekend, culture website Brooklyn Vegan will stream Garbage's iconic open-air concert in Edinburgh's Princes Street Gardens to mark the opening of the Scottish Parliament.

The American-Scottish alt-rockers, fronted by Edinburgh-born singer Shirley Manson, played a set featuring their biggest hits – including Only Happy When It Rains, Stupid Girl and I Think I'm Paranoid – on July 1, 1999.

The band also covered the Robert Burns' song John Anderson and The Beatles' Don't Let Me Down.

Speaking at the time, Stockbridge-raised Shirley said she was thrilled to be playing the event - especially as it was the first time that Garbage had ever played in her home city.

“We’re playing under the veil of Edinburgh Castle,” she said. “It’s such a beautiful city and I’m so excited about bringing my band over to where I grew up and playing for my home crowd.”
