Andy Hannah, 44, from West Granton, bit into the fruit on Thursday evening when he made the grisly discovery.

The business owner said that he bought the single apple from Morrisons supermarket on Ferry Road on Monday afternoon, and kept the fresh item in his fridge until he was ready to tuck into it three days later.

Andy said: "I felt sick when I found the insect, it had been in the fridge since I bought it and I'd eaten about a quater of it when I noticed.

"It wasn't a nice experience."

A spokesperson for Morrisons said they couldn't comment on cases where no proof of purchase could be given.
