'It was just relaxing minding its own business': Video captures adorable seal hanging out on Portobello beach

A video of an adorable seal has been warming hearts in cold weather.

The video was captured by Edinburgh resident Shannon McCaughey as she walked her dog along the icy sea front at Portobello on Thursday.

She explained: “I was just walking my dog along the beach at 8pm and we were on our way back home, complaining about the weather, when we spotted a man taking a picture.

“At first, we thought it was nothing until we walked back and realised it was a seal.

“It was just relaxing minding its own business. We called the SSPCA just to be sure it was ok and they said it was totally fine.

“It then started to head back into the sea!

“Never seen anything like it before.”

The SSPCA website says: “It is normal for a seal to spend time onshore.”

They add if there are visible signs of injury or if the seal call 03000 999 999.
