Lewis Capaldi has flown the nest and left his family home in West Lothian in favour of a sprawling £1.6 million farmhouse in central Scotland.

Despite rocketing to fame as 2019’s best selling artist, the Glasgow-born 23-year-old had until now lived with his mum and dad in Whitburn in West Lothian.

The son of a nurse and a fishmonger, Capaldi has historically played down his growing wealth.

He told fans last month that he does not own a car but instead drives around in his mum’s mint green Ford Fiesta.

Even when he was nominated for a Grammy, he joked that he was still sleeping in the same bedroom as when he was ten years old.

So fond was he off this room where he recorded his first songs before rising to fame that he showed off its blue curtains, revolving sunglasses stand and Hollywood-style vanity mirror in a recent online interview.

The star has now splashed out on a £1.6 million countryside retreat spanning several acres of land.

The five-bedroom Victorian farmhouse boasts its own trout pond with an island and bridge, stables, a summer house and an en-suite Jacuzzi room.

Renovated by previous owners, it is a blend of traditional and ultra-modern features, pairing tartan carpets with neon lighting.

In January Capaldi told fans he had less than £200 in his bank account after reading online that he has a net worth of £7.8 million.

"It says according to Forbes and Wikipedia, Lewis Capaldi's estimated net worth is $10 million. I have less than £200 in my bank right now,” he said.

“Are you telling me I'm kicking about in the same clothes I've worn for the last six months and there's $10 million sitting about somewhere - where is it?”

Capaldi shot to fame after the release of his third single, Someone You Loved, which stayed at UK No1 for seven weeks.

In October last year the song reached No1 in the US, placing Capaldi alongside British artists including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin who have achieved the same feat.
