Pictures show dead whale being removed by a tractor from Edinburgh beach

As reported in the Evening News, an injured whale died on Tuesday near one of the Capital’s beaches – despite the best efforts of volunteers and a member of animal charity SSPCA to save it.

The discovery of the wounded animal was made on Tuesday afternoon at the foot of Brunstane Burn, between Portobello and Musselburgh beaches.

Sadly, the whale – identified as a Sowerby’s beaked whale – died shortly after midday.

The body was later sent off for post-mortem in an attempt to understand the circumstances surrounding the mammal’s death.
