The two Edinburgh markets have signed up to the NeighbourFood community and are now opening as virtual markets as they are unable to physically open due to Scottish Government guidance.

The markets will be open online from Saturday and Sunday evenings through until Thursday evenings and visitors will be able to browse products from producers who usually set up physically at the market.

Producers set up to sell include Au Gourmand Bakery, Cheesee Peasee, Scotch and Co scotch eggs, Caithness Smokehouse, Tay Valley Fruits, Amazing Eataly, Casa Angelina, The Olive Stall, Perthshire Preserves, Great Oil, Vegan Tipples, Sly Fox, Tipico, Buddy Kombucha, Caurnie Soaps, East Neuk Apple Juice, Steampunk Coffee, and Trodden Black Jams, but visitors are encouraged to check daily as producers may change.

Selected items can all be checked out in one go and details of the order will be sent to the purchaser, giving them details on how to collect their order.

After orders are placed, they can be picked up from Leith Market on Saturdays or Stockbridge Markets on Sundays using your own shopping bags which makes for a contactless shopping experience.

A spokesperson for the markets said: “Obviously we cannot open Stockbridge, Leith or Grassmarket until things are safe....so in the meantime we are launching the virtual markets, click and collect, stay safe but eat well!”

Visitors can access the markets on the NeighbourFood website.
