In our latest reporters’ recommendations feature, we take a look at what we think are the best cafes in Edinburgh. There are so many great places to stop off for a cuppa or a bite to eat all across the Capital and we have chosen our favourites, including cafes by the shore in Leith and Portobello, in the old town and in Corstorphine.
5. The Edinburgh Larder
This old town cafe on Blackfriars Street is Evening News editor Rhoda Morrison's favourite cafe in Edinburgh. She said: "This cafe is one of my favourite spots for brunch or lunch in the city. It's really central and, judging by the queues you sometimes see outside it, really popular too. It's also a lovely place to taste some great Scottish food from local suppliers and it's lovely to know that when you eat there, you're supporting so many other local businesses at the same time." 6. Black Medicine Coffee Co
Situated on the corner of Nicolson Street and Drummond Street, this is Evening News reporter Rachel Mackie's favourite Edinburgh cafe. She said: "It was our meeting place in my uni days for me and my pals, and I have so many memories - stressing out before exams with one too many coffees, deciding to skip class so we can head down to the Christmas Market instead... happy days. Great drink choice and a belting atmosphere." Photo: Google
7. Milk
This Leith cafe was chosen by Evening News deputy editor Ginny Sanderson, who is pictured enjoying a cuppa there with her dad.
She said: "One of the coolest and most under the radar coffee shops in the city for me is Milk at the sculpture workshop down the old Leith railway lines. Tie it into a nice dog walk along the Water of Leith and stop in for a satisfying cup of coffee and cake, or a cracking sarnie. Dogs are welcome inside and out and it just feels like a tranquil place to be." Photo: National World
8. The Earl Grange Cafe
This cafe on the corner of Fountainhall Road and Ratcliffe Terrace was chosen by Evening News trainee reporter Annabelle Gauntlett as her favourite cafe in Edinburgh. She said: "It's a beautiful cosy, vintage cafe that has the best staff I know, they're always so friendly and hard working. The food and coffee is amazing, and dogs are allowed!" Photo: Google
