Piper calls tune to be world’s best

Have your say

EDinburgh piper Iain Speirs won the Glenfiddich Piping Championships 2012 at the weekend.

The competition sees the ten best solo pipers from around the world to gather at Blair Castle to compete for the coveted title.

It was the 39th year of the historic event and Iain’s tenth appearance at the competition.

He is a double gold medallist and a prolific prize winner and was placed 2nd in Piobaireachd (the great music) and 2nd in the March Strathspey and Reel.

All competitors are already champions before coming to Blair Atholl, but competing for the Glenfiddich pits the champions against the champions as each piper competes for
piping’s ultimate prize and recognition.

Iain lives in the city with his wife Susanne and children Annie and John. He is head of marketing at Kames Capital, an Edinburgh-based investment company
