Pipers tune up for band workshop

BUDDING pipers and drummers in East Lothian are fine tuning their instruments ahead of a band workshop aimed at inspiring the next generation of musical talent.

Hosted by the East Lothian Pipes and Drums Trust (ELPDT), the session will be conducted by a bandsman from the ScottishPower Pipe Band which recently placed third at the World Championships.

Aspiring musicians from primary and secondary schools will be attending the event taking place on April 14 at Cockenzie and Port Seton Royal British Legion.

David Johnston, deputy chairman and Trustee of ELPDT, said: “East Lothian boasts a long and distinguished piping and drumming tradition and the trust’s ambition is to offer free tuition to as many young people as possible.”

The course will culminate with a visit to the ScottishPower Pipe Band’s practice on Sunday, April 15.
