Plans revealed for 450 new homes in Longniddry

PLANS for a mixed-use development near Longniddry which propose 450 new homes as well as commercial and retail spaces, community facilities, infrastructure and green space, will go on show next week.

Proposals for residential development at Longniddry South are set to shortly go on show.

Longniddry South is located around Longniddry Farm, south of the existing village. The event will take place at the Longniddry Inn on Wednesday 29 August from 3pm to 8pm, to showcase what developers Cruden Homes (East) and ZeroC have in store for the 63-acre site. The development will be made up of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom units as well as elderly amenity housing. Around 25 per cent of the planned residential units will be affordable homes. Planning permission in principle was approved By East Lothian Council in June, following approval at committee last August. A planning application is in place for the commercial units at the Farm Steading which are expected to include a nursery, small offices, a cafe and farm shop, and self-catering accommodation. Plans for the grounds include a full-size football pitch, a new village green, restored mill pond, community orchard, play parks and other high quality public open spaces. The developers also propose reliable and safe connections between the new community and the existing village.

The commercial and retail space is being delivered separately by developer Socially Conscious Capital acting for landowner Wemyss and March Estates.

Cruden Homes (East) and ZeroC are inviting the community to engage with the plans on the back of extensive consultation that took place prior to the original planning applications.

The developers say that the development ‘will not only make current facilities and amenities, such as the primary school, more sustainable but will also bring new services to the village.’

The residential and commercial buildings will be designed with the local environment in mind, ensuring that the development will fit in the area.
