Players in cycle challenge

RUGBY players were today taking part in a cycling challenging which will see them cover the distance between Land’s End and John O’Groats in a bid to raise funds for a young fan.

Players from Murrayfield Wanderers, who are attempting to cycle the 874-mile distance at their club, want to raise funds for Archie Anderson from Northumberland, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

The five-year old – whose mum’s partner played for the club – has recently been accepted for a life-changing operation in the United States, but in order to receive the treatment his family must raise more than £50,000.

Club captain Michael Heasley, speaking of the motivation behind the event, said: “We all wanted to do something to support this fantastic cause, and this seemed like a great way for our members to get involved.

“We hope to raise as much money as possible for Archie.”

The event, which started last night, will come to a close before the club holds a fundraiser this evening.
