PM urged to go to Brazil

EDINBURGH North and Leith Labour MP Mark Lazarowicz is calling on David Cameron to attend next year’s United Nations environment summit in Rio and commit the UK to supporting economic growth based on green principles.

Mr Lazarowicz is a member of the environmental audit committee, which produced a report arguing the Prime Minister should go to Rio.

He said: “Investment in the green economy is a central theme of the Rio summit and offers a way back to renewed economic growth.

“I have been campaigning strongly for the Green Investment Bank to be given real powers as soon as possible and to be based in Edinburgh as well, where we have the expertise to make it a success.

“Green industry offers the chance to create the new jobs.”
