Police catch duo with £1m of cannabis

TWO men were caught with nearly £1 million of cannabis after traffic police smelled the drug after pulling over their car.

Walter Paterson, 61, and his co-accused, Scott Westell, 36, had been the subject of surveillance by undercover drugs officers.

When they made their move, the stench of the drug was so strong it gave them the opportunity to search Paterson’s car.

There, officers found 100kg of cannabis, worth around £500,000.

A stash of a similar value was then found at the home of Westell in Pumpherston, West Lothian, the High Court in Glasgow heard yesterday.

Paterson, who has no previous convictions, was caught after leaving the Premier Inn in Livingston earlier this year.

Sentence on both men was deferred until next month, with Paterson being released on bail and Westell remanded in custody.
