Police chiefs to be quizzed over disgraced officer case

POLICE chiefs are to be quizzed over a disgraced special branch officer who has been suspended from duty.

Lothian and Borders police board will question Chief Constable David Strang and deputy Steve Allen on why it has taken so long to deal with the case of Greig Anderson.

He has been on leave since October 2008 and is still being paid his £32,000 a year salary, it has been reported.

In April last year, he was sentenced to 140 hours community service after admitting being in wilful neglect and violation of his duty. Items including CCTV tapes, police reports and notebooks, forensic drug reports and cannabis resin and cocaine in evidence bags, were found at his home and that of a former partner.

Police board convener Iain Whyte said he was “disappointed” any case could still be taking so long after a criminal conviction. He said: “Unless there are good and compelling reasons then I think we will be challenging the level of performance.”
