Police, coastguard and lifeboat called after man and woman get stuck on rock near Silverknowes shoreline

Police and rescue teams were called out today after a man and woman got themselves stranded on rocks after being cut off by the tide near the Silverknowes shoreline.

Police were alerted to the incident near Gypsy Brae at about 10:30m on Tuesday and, when they arrived, the pair had already waded back to shore.

The Queensferry Lifeboat and South Queensferry Coastguard teams were called but both were stood down just before launching.

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 10.30am on Tuesday, 7 April, police received report of concern for a man and a woman, who were stuck on the rocks at Gypsy Brae, near the Silverknowes area of Edinburgh. Officers attended and the man and woman were traced safe and well.”

A coastguard spokesman said the pair had been cut off by the tide on some rocks close to the shoreline. Details of who made the 999 call have not been provided.

The couple had been out walking in the area and were adhering to social distancing guidance.
