Police investigate spate of vandalism at schools campus

Police are inquiring into a number of incidents of vandalism at a new school

The new joint campus school, which is shared by St Mary’s Primary School and Haddington Infant School, in East Lothian, opened on October 29.

But since opening, landscaped areas have been damaged by youths performing tricks and stunts on bikes, while parts of the building have been sprayed with graffiti.

Inspector Bob Rodriguez said: “In recent weeks there have been a number of incidents where damage has been caused at the new school campus, and while some of these may not have been deliberate, we are nonetheless concerned at the extent of the damage.

“At present we are following a positive line of enquiry in relation to these incidents, and officers are working alongside East Lothian Council Community Wardens to conduct high-visibility patrols in the area to act as a deterrent. I would like to make it clear such behaviour will not be tolerated.”
