Police see drop in dangerous driving cases

MORE than 240 motorists were charged with dangerous driving in the force area in one year, new figures have shown.

Police charged 243 people with the offence between last April and March, a drop on the previous year when 272 motorists were charged.

Meanwhile, officers charged 409 motorists for driving carelessly last year, a rise on the previous year’s total of 381.

Between last April and March, 1180 were charged with driving without a licence, while 3097 charges of driving without insurance were also made by Lothian and Borders Police.

Both figures represent a fall on the previous year when 1283 and 3364 charges were made respectively.

Last year, 2159 motorists were caught on the roads driving without an MOT certificate.
