Police tackle antisocial trouble spots

POLICE are today launching a campaign to tackle antisocial behaviour hot spots in Edinburgh East and Midlothian.

The two-month initiative will see officers working with antisocial behaviour units to target areas where vandalism, littering, fly-tipping, nuisance off-road biking and dog fouling are commonplace.

As part of the operation, police will visit hotspot areas at specific times to carry out high-visibility patrols in a bid to reduce environmental damage and prevent further trouble.

Chief Superintendent Mark Williams, divisional commander, said: “We will be working alongside our council partners as we carry out targeted and high-visibility patrols in areas where there are problems with certain types of antisocial behaviour and low-level crime.

“As well as providing a deterrent to such activity, they will also seek to identify solutions that will prevent such crimes from happening in future.”
