POLICE are warning residents to be on their guard against thieves following a string of break-ins to homes.

Officers advised residents to ensure doors and windows are locked in the wake of the sneak thefts in West Lothian.

Last Wednesday afternoon, a property in Columbia Avenue in Livingston was entered through a side door while the householder was in the back garden, and an iPhone and laptop were stolen.

In the early hours of the following day, thieves entered a window that had been left open overnight in Quarry Road, Fauldhouse, and stole a purse.

On May 4, a property in Armadale Road in Whitburn was entered via an unlocked bedroom window, and a TV and jewellery were stolen.

Detective Inspector John Wyllie said: “Everyone has enjoyed the recent good weather, however I would urge members of the public to be aware that opportunities for most of us to enjoy ourselves also present opportunities for thieves.

“What I would ask is that people take sensible precautions. If you are planning to be in your garden, please consider locking your doors and closing your ground-floor windows.”
