Gorgie/Sighthill: Ex-Provost Eric Milligan re-elected

FORMER Lord Provost Eric Milligan was returned with a resounding vote in the Gorgie/Sighthill ward - while his former business manager Catherine Fullerton was close on his heels for the SNP.

Both were elected on first preference votes, while Labour’s Donald Wilson won through on stage two of the vote counts, and the SNP’s Dennis Dickson on stage six.

Cllr Milligan said: “I am delighted with my vote and the fact that my colleague Donald Wilson has also been re-elected for the area. I never had any doubt that we as the two sitting councillors who have consistently enjoyed the support of the people in the area would be returned.

“I am delighted at the size of my own vote (2266) which is a testament to the years of service i have given to this area, particularly Stenhouse which I’ve represented for almost 40 years.”

He added that he now looked forward to working with Cathy Fullerton as a councillor. “She is someone I have a very high personal regard for and I look forward to working with her in the future as I have in the past when she was on the same political side of the divide as me. Personal relationships can transcend political differences.”
